Blogger is Dumb

Ok ...So blogger isn't helping me any lol here are the pictures that should have appeared at the end of my last post.... Notice the skein I spun of that luscious blue roving you sent me pal??? I couldn't resist!

Life Is Precious

I've always thought of myself as a decent driver. I've travelled all over North America in my car. But Monday was different. I saw my life flash before my eyes. Monday afternoon was one of the most horrific times of my life.
I've done many crazy things in my life, like bungee jumping, skydiving, whitewater rafting etc... and I have never experienced fear like I did on Monday . While travelling home from a doctor's appointment with my oldest son, I noticed my brakes weren't working. I thought...maybe they are just sticking...so I tested them again. I HAD NO BRAKES WHATSOEVER!!! A bridge was coming up, and I knew that if the lights at the bottom weren't green I was in trouble. They Weren't Green. I had about 10 seconds to make a descision, all the while panicking inside, but trying not to put my son in panic.
SNOWBANKS!!! It's winter....we've had alot of snow....they would stop me wouldn't they? At the bottom of the hill I managed to gear down, and put us in a small snowbank. Did I mention this was rush hour downtown? Not thinking clearly, I decided it would be best to try to get us to a parking lot close by so the van would be safe until a tow truck could come and get us. I figured I could coast once the light was green about 1 block and get us where I thought we'd be safe to get out and call my husband. Well...let me tell ya. Vans do not just coast...they accellerate quickly because of the weight. I tried my horn to warn the traffic crossing the intersection from the other direction. Horn didn't work. I ended up going through a red light dodging oncoming traffic with cars just missing me by inches. I thought we were going to die. It was just like in the movies, where the robber is dashing side to side avoiding cars just narrowly escaping a crash. Finally, the parking lot I was expecting was to my right. I pulled in at an allarming speed and crashed into another snowbank to avoid the car ahead of me. We were ok...we were ok...was all I could think of. It's funny how you forget how precious life is until something like this happens. Thinking back, I was exceptionally calm when we got out of the car. My son was laughing saying, "cool mom! you're a good driver!" I was in shock. I lost it once I got home and saw my husband and the other 3 babies. I think I'm still a little afraid to get behind the wheel at this point. We are alive. That's all that matters.
In contrast to this horrific experience, I had a great one last week when I got to the mail box and found yet another awesome package from my secret pal! I apologize pal for not posting about this sooner. It has been in the back of my mind all week. You truly are the best Secret Pal a girl could ask for!
So without further ado...( minus the fantastic Burt's Bee's hand cream which is in my daughter's room[she's sleeping])

Olympic Knitting has Commenced!

Here's where I'm at so far:
I'm coming along quite nicely. (I might actually finish on time!
I hear ya cheering Pal! It's working! If I can just get through all the bobbles (which I hate knitting) and all the cables without having to rip back 3 times again, this thing looks do-able! Can you believe this is for a 12 month old though? It seems a bit large to me, but when I swatched for the 3 yr old size it was coming out gargantuan, so I decided on the smallest size. I think if I finish early, I may add some pearl beads between the bobbles and cables as well as on the cuffs. My Olympic knitting is hollering at me to get back to my chair so I better jet!
Happy Olympic knitting folks!

The Wheel

So...as promised , here are some pics of the wheel. I have been trying to spin up as much as I can, but with 4 kiddos....well you know how it is. But here is my first two tiny skeins of homespun. Not too bad if I do say so myself! I apologize for the crappy yarn picture, I chose the wrong one, and Blogger won't let me delete it!! I will however try to upload another one later.

Holy Cow! Black Ink Stains!

This has been a rough week already! In the interest of saving some money on super expensive Lexmark in cartridges, I decided to buy a fill it yourself kit. I carefully laid out paper towels over the table so I wouldn't make a mess, slowly filled the syringe with half the amount of ink suggested, and placed it into the cartridge. Everything was great ...ink going in...then...............................

SPLAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Black ink exploded everywhere! And when I say everywhere, I mean my face, my hair, my hands, down my shirt, up my arms, and all over my light grey carpet. Whats a girl to do??? Clean up the carpet, or you face first? I opted for the face after sitting there in utter terror for about 30 seconds. It could have gotten into my eyes right?
Meanwhile, my two oldest boys(who had witnessed this whole event) were sitting on the couch laughing their heads off.
Well let me tell ya, black ink does not come off easy. I still have spots on my face, and a couple of black eyebrows until it wears off. My carpet? Well it's done. We need to get a new one. Fortunately, we are doing a major renovation in the spring ( a 950 sq ft addition) and I suppose I could throw in a new carpet for the livingroom. Until then....all visitors beware, I have a leopard spotted carpet, and it will be that way for another month or two.

On a brighter note, I am bringing home a spinning wheel today!!!!!! My local Weavers and Spinners guild is giving me a loaner for as long as I need to make a descision on which wheel I want to buy. YAY!!!!!

And Isabelle,
Just for you...I will complete this meme cause it's short. Although I'm not that unusual..

What are you 5 most unusual habits?
1. I like to have a coffee before bed. It doesn't keep me awake!

Yummy Surprise!

I have the best Secret Pal ever! I strolled down to the mailbox expecting my end of the month bills, and what do I find? This!........

You have the most exquisite taste pal, i have to say. The yarn is divine. The perfect colour, and so soft. The candle is one of the nicest scents I have had the pleasure of putting my nose to in a long time, the coffee mug...priceless(no one else in the house will dare touch it!) Finally, the yummy chocolate goodness and the delectable teas.....mmmmmm....tonight will be a great night. As soon as all the kiddos are in bed, I'm breaking out all of this awesome stuff and having a mommy night alone. Me, my yarn, and my chocolate with a cup of tea to wash it all down. Marc is working tonight, so I can enjoy it all to myself! YAY! Just what a stressed out mom of 4 needed at the end of a truly stressful week. You're the best ! I hope you get as many nice goodies from your pal.

Knitting Olympics

I've Just about lost my mind.....I've decided to participate in Yarn Harlot's evil scheme to make us all go crazy. I have joined the Knitting Olympics! The object is to pick a project that you will find challenging, cast on at the opening ceremonies and have it completely finished by the time the olympic flame is put out. 4 kids...knitting deadlines......yep...I'm insane. But at least I will be happily knitting when they tie me up in restraints and lock me up. My original choice was the Victorian Lace Shawl but I was too anxious to start it, that I cast it on already. so...I decided to knit this:

It is the Smock Jacket from the Debbie Bliss Celtic Collection. I have had the book for 2 years now and have yet to knit a pattern from it. I think it will be a challenge for me to complete in 16 days. Wish me luck!

On other news...I'd like to say hello and thankyou to my awesome secret pal who has been spoiling me with funny e-cards and e-mails for the last week or so. THANKS! You always make my day!

Some socks I've been knitting.

Recently, all I have been obsessed about is knitting socks and buying sock yarn. I bought a new digital camera yesterday, so I had to try it out. Here is he first of my latest pair of socks. They are in a self patterning jacquard wool from Lane Cervinia. My husband has decided he loves to wear handknit socks. I am happy to oblige!

SP7 Questionnaire!

This is going to be so much fun!!

1. Are you a yarn snob (do you prefer higher quality and/or natural fibers)? Do you avoid Red Heart and Lion Brand?

Love all yarn, although I have in recent years shifted more towards natural fibre only. It makes a project a little more special, and feels much nicer to work with.

I have been knitting since the age of 5 so... about 25 years (not including the 1 or 2 year hiatus in high school when I didn't think it was cool). I consider myself advanced. Not too many patterns faze me anymore. Except Intarsia ones with a gazillion colours.

SP7 Virgin

I'm a secret pal virgin no longer! I signed up for SP7 !. I have read all kinds of blogs, and so many have had fun giving little knitty treats to their secret pals (as well as recieving some), so I decided it was time I get in on the fun. I am soooo excited! The internet and blogging are the closest thing I get to fellow knitters...(not too many people around my parts are as obsessed about knitting as I am). Finally I can share the love! So many gift ideas...so little time.
On the knitting front... I recieved a huge box of goodies from here yesterday and I can't wait to dig into it. I hope to post a pic of my lovely box o' treats as soon as I can. On the list to start are 3 pairs of socks, a scarf and hat set for me..and a sweater for my son. I managed to finish up 2 of my WIP's since the start of the new year so I think I've earned another project or two on the needles.
Off to my knitting chair while the babies are still sleeping!

Monday, December 26

No Pressure knitting!

Hooray! Christmas knitting is over! Finally I can pick up a project just for fun. Although as a new years resolution I am going to try and knock off some of my WIP's, so I can have a fresh start this year. I have also marked this year as a de-stash the acrylic year because I much prefer natural fibres. I'll probably keep just enough for fun baby projects and toys for the kids. E-Bay here I come! I'd say about 400-500 balls of acrylic to sell. On to more socks. DH's are finally done. I grafted the toe of the last one last night. This time I didn't suffer from Second Sock Syndrome! The Patons Kroy was awesome to knit up. Everyone is always impressed thinking I actually made up the stripe pattern. (hee hee)...Ya right! Off to a cup of coffee and my knitting. SHHHHHHHHH the babies are sleeping. ;-)

Hilarious

OK ...so I got a couple of Christmas gifts early this year, and I have to say I scored. Mom got me a beautiful quilt rack which will be prominently displayed in my kitchen(love it) and I was also thrilled to recieve a beautiful down filled baby blue sporty winter coat. Does mom know me or what? My lovely and beautiful sister Karen bought me a book. I love books. Especially books that were actually on my wish list. I have to tell you that I have already finished the book...on my long trip back home from Ottawa. Yarn Harlot is hilarious. And no....my husband does not know why I could get so excited about reading a book about knitting, and the life stories that go along with it. "What are you laughing at" he would say as he sped down highway 17 at alarming speeds( which is why I read or knit in the car in the first place..distraction is good medicine for paranoia). Every page was a fantastic story which much parallells my own life. Kids, knitting, no time to knit because of the "TAKE". I could go on and on, but the bottom line is....buy this book ..read this book...it was the best read I have had in a while(even if it did only take me 4 hours). Canadian Knitters Rock!!!.. You go Steph!

Me and My Abby

We've been visiting with my mom this week in Ottawa and we got a few great pics...Here's one of my daughter Abby and I. I've been knitting some socks this week as they are a great portable project. I hope to have some photos soon of the work in progress. We are headed home on Friday so I will have more time to work on them in the car. Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends. Posted by Picasa

Sunday, November 13

OK so I've been really neglecting my groups, rings and blog for the last few months and I feel really bad. I hope you will all take me back! Pregnancy, giving birth to a preemie and dealing with 4 kids under 10 has been taking it's toll. Not to mention we had computer issues all summer, (but that's a whole other page). I have missed you all. As for knitting, I am finally able to knit again without wanting to hurl. Hubby asked me today to knit him a hat for work. (he works in a hockey arena). He said his ears have been freezing. So that is what I worked on today. As well as a pair of socks that are destined to be given for Christmas. I'll post some pics as soon as they are done. I will however post a pic of my full of beans Abby who is becoming quite the little tirant. Learning to walk does that I guess. I couldn't help but smile when I saw her face. Hope it makes you smile too.

Friday, November 4

I almost forgot! Leah wins the Contest!

With her guess of Boy and a due date of NOV 29 she was the closest. My due date actually was NOVEMBER 12th and yes it was a boy.

I'm BACK! YEEE HAW!

Finally after months of no computer, I'm back. Safe and sound. I must announce also that I gave birth to a beautiful, although very premature baby boy on the 13th of September. He was 10 weeks early, (4lbs 3oz) but he is finally home. It is crazy around here now with the four kiddos but I love every minute of it. Missed everyone. Hope to chat with you all soon.
